WYTHNOS TREFTADAETH CYMRU, MADISON 2007 WELSH HERITAGE WEEK, MADISON 2007
Rhodri Jones, September 2007
“Ers nifer o flynyddoedd, erbyn hyn, ces y fraint o fod yn diwtor ar Wythnos Treftadaeth Cymru. Mae’r profiad wedi bod yn ddiddorol a dweud y lleiaf. Mae cwrdd yn flynyddol i gael chwistrelliad o ddiwylliant yn
rhan annatod o wneuthuriad y Cymry. I ni yma mae wythnos yr Eisteddfod Genedlaethol yn rhoi yr un fath o wefr ond dim ond rhyw 250 o filltiroedd yw Cymru o Went i Fôn mae aelodau WTC yn teithio dipyn yn bellach. O
gofio hyn a sylweddoli’r ymdrech mae’r aelodau yn rhoi mae’n gwneud i ni sy’n teithio atynt deimlo balchder yn eu llwyddiannau a gostyngeiddrwydd wrth weithio yn egni eu brwdfrydedd.
For a number of
years, by now, I have been privileged to be a tutor on the Welsh Heritage Week. This had been an interesting experience to say the least. Meeting annually to get a fix of culture is an intrinsic part of the Welsh
psyche. For us, here a week at the National Eisteddfod gives us this fix but there are only some 250 miles from Gwent to Anglesey and the members of WHW travel considerably further. When we remember this and realise
the effort that the members make, we who travel to be with them feel a great pride in their achievements and much humility in the energy of their enthusiasm.”

Welsh Heritage Week: Wythnos Treftadaeth Cymru July 27 to August 3, 2003
Judith Brougham, September 2003
“For the first time ever, Welsh Heritage Week was held in Virginia.
Founded in 1981, Welsh Heritage Week was first held at Keuka College in Upstate New York, then each year in different areas of the East and Midwest and Wales. The years in Wales were 1992, 1996, 2000 and next
year. A week of language class, hymn-singing in Welsh, Welsh folk dance, Welsh folk harp, traditional session music, and Welsh poetry and literature are taught by a staff who travel to the United States from
Wales each year.” To read the rest of Judith’s article, click here.
Welsh Heritage Week (Wythnos Treftadaeth Cymru) 2003 Through the Eyes Of a First-Timer
Leslie Griffiths Franson, August 2003
“I blame it on Crasdant.
This talented group from Wales performed at a nearby theater and introduced me to traditional Welsh music. The defining moment for me was when Huw Williams, their guitar player, donned his clogs and wowed the audience with his Welsh step dancing. I was entranced. I put my name on the mailing list of the Welsh Harp and Heritage Society and some time later received a flier about Welsh Heritage Week. Among other things, it mentioned Welsh clog dance classes! Since it was being held within a 4-hour drive of my home, I determined to go. I filled out the application and signed up for every class they offered. “ To read the rest of Leslie’s article, click here.
