Sunday, July 25, 2004 - Monday, August 2, 2004           Nant Gwrtheyrn , North Wales

  • Sunday evening (7/25), coach pick-up from Manchester Airport, dinner and welcome
  • Monday-Saturday (7/26-7/31), daily classes in language, music, dancing, literature, and more; evening activities include a twmpath dawns, pub night, noson lawen, staff concert, and more
  • Sunday (8/1), Gymanfa Ganu service, afternoon free
  • Monday (8/2), Day trip to Bardsey Island (other location if weather is unfavorable)

Tuesday, August 3, 2004                  Depart Nant Gwrtheyrn for Welshpool, Mid-Wales

Intermediate stops include:

We will spend 2 nights in Welshpool with some of Montgomeryshire’s farm and country hosts. Includes two nights dinner, bed and breakfast in homes, and an opportunity to get to know the local community. (What a treat!)

Wednesday, August 4, 2004            Day trip through Newton to Llanidloes, Mid-Wales

We will traverse the Plynlimon mountain range and arrive at Devil’s Bridge in time for lunch before boarding the 100-year-old Vale of Rheidol Narrow Gauge Railway to Aberystwyth.  Then on to the National Library of Wales for a V.I.P. guided tour of the library with an opportunity to learn about tracing your family tree. Evening return to Welshpool to stay with local hosts.

Thursday, August 5, 2004                       Depart Welshpool for Eisteddfod, South Wales

Depart local hosts in Welshpool and travel to Eisteddfod, near Newport to arrive around 11:30 a.m. Spend the day at the Eisteddfod and participate in the Cymru a’r Byd ceremony.  Late afternoon transportation to Cardiff hotel. Evening free.

Friday, August 6, 2004                               Various activities around Cardiff/Eisteddfod

Saturday, August 7, 2004                                                     Swansea and Big Pit Museum

A full day’s circular tour today.  Travel first to Wales’ second city - Swansea - to visit the Dylan Thomas Centre and to enjoy a presentation and guided tour of Dylan’s haunts by Pat Hughes.  Also visit Wales’ largest covered market in the heart of Swansea to taste some local Welsh delicacies before continuing northwards along the Neath Valley to the Brecon Beacons National Park.  Afternoon visit to the Big Pit (National Mining Museum of Wales).  This is a tour of an old, deep coal mine, with ex-miners as guides.  A farewell gourmet dinner will be organized this evening at one of Cardiff’s top restaurants.

Sunday, August 8, 2004                                             Depart Cardiff for Heathrow Airport

Early breakfast and then departure from Cardiff for MANCHESTER Airport for return flights.
