Pre-Course Trip On the Saturday before the course begins we are offering a special day trip to Columcille Park and the Slate Belt Heritage Center in Bangor, PA. Rev. William Cohea, founder and builder of Columcille Park will be on hand to give us the history of the park and John Reinhardt will guide us through the Heritage Center. An old building was saved by a local group, and opened in 2000 to house local heritage and history. There are several rooms with varying themes related to the history of Bangor, PA, including a Welsh Room. The cost includes: bus trip, tour guide, and two extra nights’ lodging (Friday and Saturday) at the college. It does not include meals for Friday and Saturday. If you want to make the trip, mark Day Trip to Slate Belt Heritage Museum on the Registration Form. Note: No reservations for this trip will be accepted after June 30, 2006, so please sign up right away! Other Activities Each year special evening activities are planned for course participants. Some of these events are also open to the public (see note for each event), and the local Welsh group is encouraged to attend. Travel Information More information about accommodations and travel will be sent after you register for the course. If you are flying to WHW, you need to fly into the Newark, NJ airport. (That is the closest airport to the school.) Arrangements will be made for bus transport between the airport and the school for $40. Return flights on Sunday should leave Newark no earlier than 5 PM. This will allow you to attend the cymanfa and have lunch before boarding the bus for the two-hour drive back to Newark. The Welsh Harp & Heritage Society The Welsh Harp & Heritage Society was established to promote Welsh culture through Wales’ national instrument, the harp, and its associated traditions. The tradition of the harp in Wales directly relates to may other Welsh traditions including singing, folk dancing, poetry, and, ultimately, the language itself. The main outreach of the society is the annual Welsh Heritage Week. Membership in the Welsh Harp & Heritage Society is for anyone with an interest in Welsh culture and heritage. Annual society dues are $20 for Individual, $30 for Family, $50 for Sponsor or $100 for Patron. |
